Here's What to Do When Your Furnace Won't Ignite

February 23, 2017

We are getting through the last few weeks of winter but we still have to have our furnaces, especially during cold nights. Nothing is worse than turning in at night just to find out your furnace won’t turn on. If you find yourself in this situation, here are a couple things you can check yourself before calling R & M Climate Control Service Experts.

Check Air Filters

You should change standard air filters every 30 days. If you fail to do so, they can end up clogged, restricting air flow and resulting in your furnace malfunctioning.

Check Your Thermostat

Try turning the temperature up a few degrees to get the furnace to kick on. If the true room temperature is higher than the thermostat, the furnace won’t run. Also, verify the system switch is on “heat” or “auto.”

Check the Power

It may seem obvious, but confirm the power switch next to the furnace is “On.” Even gas heating equipment uses electricity so verify the breaker has not tripped and that the power switch was not accidently flipped to the “Off” position.

If you review all these things and your heating system will still not kick on, give R & M Climate Control Service Experts a call at 865-229-6176 and we’ll come out and get you heating again as soon as possible.
