4 Tips for Furnace Repair

April 15, 2016

Springtime may technically be here but in Knoxville it’s not all warm and comfy outside. Your furnace has been working for months trying to keep you and your family comfortable, so now is the time to give your furnace some affection. If you hear funny noises or the heating system has turned itself off, you may be in need of a furnace repair. If you notice a strong gas smell, you almost definitely need furnace repair work and you should call R & M Climate Control Service Experts as soon as possible.

Before you jump to the conclusion that you need a furnace repair technician, read these tips from R & M Climate Control Service Experts.

  • Confirm your thermostat is set to “heat.”

It may sound crazy, but we get busy and life happens, so it’s very easy to miss the simple fixes. Neglecting to change over the thermostat can make you believe you need furnace repair and installation when really you can fix the problem with a literal flip of the switch!

  • Check your furnace switch.

Since we’re talking about switches, make sure your furnace switch is moved to the up, or “on” position. Like we said, an easy miss, especially when you remember this switch isn’t one you tend to look at frequently. Most furnaces have built-in delays so be patient when you turn your furnace on and give it a few minutes to get going before panicking about needing our furnace repair man.

  • Replace your furnace air filter.

You should replace your home’s air filters around every three months to help your heating system run more efficiently and prolong any furnace repair work. A dirty air filter is one of the most common reasons for poor performance in furnaces, and they can also be a breeding ground for bacteria and cause you and your children to become sick. Change your filter to keep both your furnace and your loved ones healthy. You may also schedule seasonal maintenance with R & M Climate Control and have a thorough furnace cleaning as part of your tune-up.

  • Check the circuit breaker.

Check your circuit breaker panel to see if the breaker that controls your furnace is in the middle position or the “off” position. If the breaker has ended up in the middle position, cycle the breaker to “off” and then reset it to the “on” position.

Furnace repairs can get expensive, so avoid a potential issue altogether with seasonal maintenance from R & M Climate Control Service Experts. However, if you are needing furnace repair, we are available 24/7/365 to service all your heating needs.
